Montage Palmetto Bluff

I wanted to take my daughter Allison somewhere special for her birthday which falls near the Fourth of July weekend. We decided to go to South Carolina and visit the Montage Palmetto Bluffs, as I have heard so many wonderful things about the property.

The Montage Palmetto Bluffs is located in Bluffton, South Carolina. We flew into Savannah and it was an easy 30 -minute drive. You can also drive in from Hilton Head (30 mins) or fly into Charleston where the drive is 2 hours. The property itself is a stunning 20,000 acres and is larger than Manhattan. It is set on the May River and has nature trails, a golf course, homes and resort accommodations. This just touches the surface of what is in the community. It really is a world unto itself.

To explore the property, you can rent bikes or take one of the complimentary golf cart shuttles. You can even rent one of the golf carts if you are like my daughter and love driving them. Nothing makes her happier than taking a golf cart around for a spin.

In fact, we spent the better part of one day exploring just to be able to drive around more.

The list of activities the resort offers seem endless. We were provided with a thick brochure at check in with the daily activities PLUS the activities that are always in rotation. Some of these include kayaking, boat rides to Hilton Head and Dafuskie Island, fishing boat guides, sunset boat rides, (more on this later as we did this) and many exercise classes. S’mores are offered every night. We made sure to never miss that!

They had so many events planned that it was sometimes hard to choose what to do next. Of course, there was always the option to relax by the pool or fish off the pier if that is more your speed. Although not on a beach, there were plenty of water- based activities. They also have an option to use one of their Cadillacs for FREE for the day to take to any of the nearby beach communities if you are craving a beach day. That can be the perfect compromise for families where one wants some beach time and other may not.

The food was outstanding. They have 10 restaurants, so if you are staying a for a long weekend you have a variety of types of food.

Our choice of the sunset boat tour was really incredible. We ended up with the boat to ourselves and so it became a sunset/dolphin adventure cruise. We saw dolphins everywhere we looked. I wish I had better photographs of them. As soon as you would see them it would be a little late for the shot.

For the Fourth of July they had some great programming. We went to a circus, complete with an acrobat, games, food and a band. The music was really outstanding at all of the events we went to. If you like dueling pianos, they had a great one performing, and everyone was really engaged which made it so much more fun. Saturday night featured a Fourth of July finale Gala with food from all of the restaurants on property. It was a treat to taste it all as we didn’t make it to each restaurant.

The entertainment for the night was Collective Soul, a band I remembered from college so that was really exciting for me.

There are so many types of accommodations that there is sure to be one to suit every type of traveler. Ours had a view of the lagoon which was the perfect way to wake up every morning. There are suites, connecting rooms, and even homes.

As a Virtuoso client you will receive $60 in breakfast, $100 credit, and if available, early and late check-in/out and potential upgrade.

I can advise the best room for your needs and all of the exciting things to do while you are there.  I would love to help you plan your next getaway to this special place. I want you to make as many fun memories as we did!
